Me at BMT Graduation

Friday, December 23, 2011

So, Heather and I (more me than Heather) have used a spreadsheet on MS Excel to keep track of our finances throughout the year. Anyways, I have been doing this since January till August when I shipped out to basic. I had shown Heather how to do it on the computer, however, she was unable to keep up with it since school was taking priority.

So, as one of my "projects" I was going to update my little spreadsheet with all financial transactions that took place since I left. It was interesting to take a minute to kind of "see" what Heather had been doing while I was gone, or every once in a while I would see a purchase from San Antonio, and I would have a mini flash back to some point in time at basic. It was really interesting.

Well, back to finishing the finances, I'm up to my BMT graduation.... lol

I made it!

So, a lot has happened since my last update. I have been really busy with training an all that. So, we had graduation on Dec. 16 2011, but the days leading up to it were some of the worst.

Monday, Dec. 12- Most of the flight has limited uniforms. Some people had white shirts, but nobody had ceremonial's. We basically

worked on small things like fitting our belts, siliconing our gloves, and shaving our scarves. We had a meeting with someone important about something that I cant remember.
Tuesday, Dec. 13- Basically Monday all repeated. Some people started to get more uniform parts, and were able to de-string.
Wednesday, Dec. 14- We all got our uniform parts and pieces. We started to learn how to take care of them as far as iorning and cleaning. Also, learned how to pin all of our accouterments on. Some grad. practice.
Thursday, Dec. 15- Grad. practice all day, along with a smoke session. I think the instructors wanted to get one last one in...

Friday, Dec. 16- BEST DAY EVER!!! We woke up at 0400, got into ceremonials, got into pt gear, went and practiced with sneakers on, came back and got our triple soles, did practice with them, got beat a little bit because our rooms weren't empty, got into ceremonials. GRADUATED! Then, the rest of the day consisted of cleaning out my dorm room and chilling.

Saturday, Dec. 17- Moved in to our new
house! A 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath, 1 car garage
townhouse on JBAB.

We (Heather and I) have been able to have a
wonderful past few days with my parents as
they helped move us down to D.C. My awesome
dad drove the Penske truck and helped load and
unload, while my super mom helped put stuff away,
then saved me a bunch of $$$$$$ by sewing down all
of my pockets and sewing my rank on.

So, that is what we have been up to. Here is a link to my Honor Guard Tech School class video, its a
really awesome, and shows some of the stuff we have done here. I encourage you to check it out.

Late update

So, my last post, was right before my re-re-evals... Well, I did end up passing! Now, I am on track to graduation unless I majorly mess up within the next week. Which I hope doesn't happen.

Also, Wednesday we as a flight went to Arlington National Cemetery. We watched a funeral, then went and saw the changing of the guard. It was so different to watch the changing at the tomb of the unknown from the perspective of "I'm learning how to do this"... there was a lot for respect and relateability to the whole thing.

Well that's it for now

Oh boy, Nervous!

Well, it has come down to the wire on this one.... Tomorrow, 06 Dec 2011, I have my final re-re-eval on all the items I had failed on all my re-evals. What this means, is that if I pass (which I hope to) then I will be able to continue the next few weeks and become a Ceremonial Guardsman. However, if I fail, then I will be washed back the next class in February. That would be super unfortunate, and I would start over from week 1.

So, the past few days have been spent only practicing my movements that I failed. Basically, it has been like 20 or more hours practicing just for this one eval. I have the moves down really well, but if I decide to lose my mind and get nervous tomorrow I could really mess up and botch the moves. So, hopefully/prayerfully I won't be nervous or mess anything up!

On another note, my brother-in-law Nathan Vines also has a big day tomorrow as he goes and talks to his recruiter about his upcoming enlistment. Hopefully the recruiter can answer all of the Vines' questions, and that everything will work out for them.

Well, that is about it for now, I have alot of stuff to do to prepare for tomorrow. G-night everybody.
